URGENT - FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS AGES 16-59 NEEDED

As the city and state adapt to the Stay at Home order, the people who rely on MSV’s food pantries still count on us for this basic need—and we are seeing more new clients as businesses cut staff and operations in response to the order. Our regular team of pantry volunteers consists largely of seniors, who are most at risk from COVID-19 and therefore have been asked to stay home for their own health and safety.

We especially need help keeping our west side Food Pantry at the Foglia Family and Youth Center fully staffed for those who find themselves in deep need right now and in the coming weeks. We are looking for volunteers who can assist with packing food boxes M-Sat, and who can help with distribution on M-W-F.

We have made the following adaptations to ensure safety and adequate social distancing:

• Food is pre-packed and given to clients (different from our usual Client Choice model)

• Staff/volunteer numbers are limited to provide adequate social distancing in the work spaces

• Clients enter one at a time to receive food; all surfaces are wiped/sanitized between clients

• When possible, clients with cars are provided with curbside distribution of food to reduce entries into the building

If you are between ages 16-59, are healthy (no cough/cold/fever symptoms), have not travelled internationally within the past 14 days, have not come into contact with anyone known to have contracted the COVID-19 coronavirus, and are willing to help,-

-please contact Colleen Mulcrone, Volunteer Manager, directly at colleen.mulcrone@marillacstvincent.org to schedule a shift. Shifts are generally M/W-9am-6pm; T/Th 11am-3pm; Fri 9am-3pm; Sat 9am-3, and volunteers are welcome for all or part of any shift.

We are also a partner with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and receive a majority of our pantries’ food supply from them. If you or anyone in your network can’t volunteer at our pantry but is planning to volunteer (or already does) at GCFD, ask them to tell GCFD they are there on behalf of Marillac St. Vincent—MSV receives credits with them for all volunteer hours performed on our behalf, which are then applied to our orders from GCFD.

Thank you for your support.
