About Santa Mike

In the winter of 1970, Mike Sturch, lovingly known as “Santa Mike,” began a tradition to help St. Vincent de Paul Center families have a better holiday season. For over 40 years, “Santa Mike” has been providing over 440 children of low-income working families a special gift from Santa, a Homeless Outreach Luncheon for over 500 homeless men, women and children, as well as a special holiday meal for over 250 isolated seniors.

Thanks to the help from generous donations to the Santa Mike Fund, Mike, his family and faithful volunteers have been able to provide holiday gifts for thousands of children in need, countless dinners for low-income seniors, sponsored staff appreciation dinners and a Thanksgiving meal for hundreds of homeless men and women.

Santa Visits the Children of St. Vincent

December 7, 2017 | 1:00 - 5:00 PM

In Illinois the number of families who are defined as the Working Poor continues to rise each year. In 2015 a family of four who earned $24,036 fell below the Federal Poverty Level. Families are working hard every day to give their children what they need. At St. Vincent DePaul Center 456 children ages 3 months to 12 years old attend our child development programs. Our parents want the best for their children now and for their futures. Imagine at the holidays having to make the decision of paying rent or buying your child a gift. These are difficult choices being made by our parents. 48 years ago Mike Sturch started his Santa Mike Holiday party which includes a visit from Santa and a special gift for each child.

Senior's Christmas Party

December 7, 2017 | 5:30 - 9:00 PM

Socialization is critical for senior health and well-being. The more socialization the more positive seniors are and they feel less lonely and isolated. The Santa Mike Fund and Marillac St. Vincent Family Services have been hosting a Christmas Party for Seniors throughout Chicago. This year the party will be held on December 7, 2017, at St. Vincent de Paul Center. The night is full of fun and plenty of socialization. The seniors are treated to a sit down dinner, music, gifts, dancing and a night of fond memories. It is an opportunity for them to connect with old friends and meet new ones.
