Conversation with St. Vincent de Paul Center Volunteer Brenda Mikol
Brenda Mikol, manager of the Starbucks location across the street from St. Vincent de Paul Center, has volunteered in many capacities for St. Vincent’s for the past eight years, supporting the Center in several ways.
Brenda supplies pastries, oatmeal, bananas and other food items as in-kind donations. Often, she sets aside oatmeal for our senior clients and sets aside fruit for our food pantry clients.
She has led volunteer teams of Starbucks staffers, friends and neighbors to do everything from cleaning the garage and storage areas and doing a spring clean up of the Center grounds.
Brenda also volunteers her time and donates coffee for major events, while also inviting community neighbors to join her in volunteering. For the last several years she has participated in the Santa Mike Senior Christmas Dinner and Party. She also gathers a group each year to volunteer at the Annual Outreach Event for the Homeless. Brenda says this event is a humbling experience, in that hearing the homeless share their life stories helps her appreciate everything without taking anything for granted.
Brenda loves to spread the word about everything St. Vincent’s has to offer, and believes her volunteer work with us helps the Center, our clients, the neighborhood and herself: “Kids and the elderly are my passion. I learn so much while giving back.”
Brenda comes from a large family, and has always loved helping out. She says, “I love St. Vincent’s. I want to do more and give more, and help everyone there.”
