29th Annual Hunger Walk
Saturday, June 21st
Help us make the most of our Hunger Walk efforts!
On Saturday, June 21st at 8:30am people throughout Cook County will join together in their commitment to fight hunger by participating in a 5K event at Soldier Field in Chicago.
This annual run/walk/crawl/wave event both increases awareness about hunger in our communities and raises funds to help feed hungry families!
Recognizing our centennial this year, Marillac St. Vincent Family Services is proud to be a pillar in the communities we serve. Through our food pantry, senior programs, family services, and youth programs, we help strengthen and empower Chicagoans in need to reach their fullest potential. For every Hunger Walk participant who walks on our behalf, the Greater Chicago Food Depository credits us $12 to buy food. Through GCFD, $12 can buy 11 packages of pork chops, 16 bags of rice, or 45 cans of kidney beans!
Not only do we earn food credits for Hunger Walk participants, but 100% of donations will go directly to our pantry. Plus, the Greater Chicago Food Depository will match donations, up to $1,000!
What You Can Do
This is a once-a-year opportunity to take a simple step with great implications against hunger.
Grandparents, babies, individuals, families, kids - everyone is welcome to join our Hunger Walk team! You do not have to be physically fit, and there's no cost to join. Plus, you can sign up for a space on the bus, and we will transport everyone to and from Soldier Field. By simply showing up, you take a stand against hunger and show your support for the 1 in 6 Chicagoans unsure as to where they'll get their next meal.
To join, register online by clicking here.
Select that you are walking on behalf of a member agency. Our agency is A00080 - Marillac St. Vincent Family Services. You can also register or find out more information by calling the Marillac Food Pantry at 773-584-3212 or emailing us at: email@example.com.
However small or large, every dollar counts! Plus, the first $1,000 is matched by the Greater Chicago Food Depository. With neighbors who are hungry today, there's no better time to donate to the fight against hunger!

The 9th Annual
Marillac Social Center & Willie Morris Classic
On Saturday, May 17th, Marillac Social Center welcomed young athletes to the 9th Annual Willie Morris Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Grade school children participated in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, as well as had the opportunity to sign up for the 3-point contest. Volunteers helped facilitate the event by serving as scorekeepers, referees, face painters, and concessionaires, along with many other roles. The day featured a family-friendly atmosphere with games, food, and face painting. All participants received a t-shirt and a medal to honor their good work.
We would like to congratulate all of the athletes for their participation and sportsmanship. We would like to thank all of the volunteers, staff, and attendees who made the day so successful and enjoyable, as well as Ziegler for partnering with Marillac to make this event possible.
All photos are provided by Haley Berg.
The event was brought to you in partnership with Marillac St. Vincent Family Services, and Ziegler, a financial services firm invested in the health, wealth, and well-being of our communities. To learn more, visit www.ziegler.com.

We featured a story in January about an Outreach client.
Hung T. started working with Outreach Staff in January 2012 to obtain a replacement work authorization card which would allow him to work legally in the United States. His documentation had been stolen in 2001 during a move. Without documentation, Hung lost his job and then his housing, resulting in homelessness.
After extensive work with Immigration services, Outreach staff was successful in helping Hung receive his replacement work authorization card in December 2013. Once he received that paperwork, Hung was ready to seek employment.
From January - April 2014, Hung met weekly with Outreach Program staff for employment services support, including developing his resume, searching and applying for jobs, practice interviewing, attending job interviews and setting up an email account.
In April 2014, Hung interviewed and received a job offer with the Lincoln Park Zoo. He started work at the end of the month as kitchen assistant for one of the restaurants at the Zoo.
Hung says, "It's so great to be back to work. I feel good about myself that I have a job. I am able now to start saving money to one day get an apartment and start looking towards the future."
