Chicago Reader Honors
LaToya Winters, a youth worker at Marillac, was recently selected for the People Issue of the Chicago Reader.
LaToya grew up at Marillac, attending after-school programs until she attended high school at Regina Dominican in the Chicago suburbs, an opportunity she heard about at Marillac. After high school, LaToya went off to Northern Illinois University. During her freshman year, she also gave birth to a son. Her son was very ill and did not survive to his first birthday. However, LaToya rose above these tragic circumstances and graduated from NIU.
Upon her graduation, LaToya came back home to Chicago and back to Marillac, where she works today. She hopes to become a social worker in the future, because she knows the impact such individuals can have on children in need.
