Advocacy Day

This month the staff, parents, and partners from both Centers traveled to Springfield and rallied with 1,500 attendees to advocate for child care and early education funding.

The 2013 Illinois state budget proposes devastating cuts to the Illinois Department of Human Services Child Care Assistance Program. The present proposal includes dramatically increasing the child care co-payment for all families, including an average 52% increase for low-income families and a restriction of the income guidelines for eligibility to enter the program from 185% to 150% of the Federal Poverty Level. This means that the cost of childcare could dramatically increase for many families and others would no longer be eligible at all.

Childcare is an integral part of early childhood education and an effective investment in our communities. It provides children a strong foundation for their education and enables thousands of families across the state to work and contribute to Illinois’ business strength.

We strongly believe that proactive education and advocacy can make a difference with our state legislators in Springfield.  We encourage all of our supporters to get involved to help make a difference. Write, call or e-mail your local state representatives. Make your voice heard!
