Read-aloud Storybook Drive
CHICAGO (Jan. 19, 2011) – Chicago’s oldest pre-school facility, the not-for-profit St. Vincent de Paul Center in Lincoln Park, is in need of read-aloud storybooks, educational games, puzzles and art supplies for a growing number of low-income children enrolled in its Pre-Kindergarten program. A special effort to solicit public donations of needed supplies is being launched today by 43rd Ward Alderman Vi Daley and the cast of Disney On Ice presents Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 3.
The St. Vincent de Paul Center Read-aloud Storybook Drive will run through the end of this month, with donations being accepted at St. Vincent de Paul Center, 2145 N. Halsted, Chicago; Alderman Daley’s 43rd Ward Office, 735 W. Wrightwood; the Starbucks at 2200 N. Halsted; DePaul Athletic Department, 2323 North Sheffield Ave., and DePaul Graduate School of Public Affairs, 14 E. Jackson Blvd. Donations should be of new items appropriate for children ages 2 ½ to 5. For additional information, call St. Vincent de Paul Center’s Development Department at (312) 278-4218.
“We are grateful for the community’s ongoing support of our mission to provide high-quality early childhood education to low-income children from all over the city of Chicago,” said Carrie Callas, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul Center. “As our friends from Disney On Ice might say, with a strong educational foundation, children can go ‘to infinity and beyond!’”
Since 1915, St. Vincent de Paul Center has been dedicated to empowering those most in need to reach their greatest potential. The Center fulfills this mission through quality childcare for over 430 children and NAEYC Accredited early childhood education, comprehensive services to isolated seniors and outreach to the homeless.
Disney On Ice’s newest skating spectacular, Disney On Ice presents Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 3, will be appearing Jan. 26-30 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., and Feb. 2-13 at Chicago’s United Center. For additional information, log on to www.disneyonice.com.
