East Garfield Park Youth Awards

East Garfield Park (EGP) is full of great kids! Once again, we would like to formally and publically recognize the hard work, achievements and strength of character of some of the fine young members of our community.

On Wednesday, May 4th at 6:30PM, please join the Breakthrough Youth Network, Marillac St. Vincent Family Services, Priscy's Production Outreach Program and Chicago West Community Music Center, Taproots & Beidler in acknowledging and celebrating youth achievement while encouraging continued growth, fostering pride among local residents and promoting collaboration among community organizations at the 3rd Annual East Garfield Park Community Youth Awards.


Nominees must be involved in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. This includes living in EGP, attending school in EGP, and/or being actively involved with a community organization (after school program, park district, extracurricular program/club) or church in EGP.

Nominees must fall within one of two grade classifications: either grades 6-8 or grades 9-12 for the 2015/16 school year.

Nominations will be received from staff and volunteers from EGP schools, churches, and community organizations/groups. Youth involved in the EGP neighborhood: those who live, attend school or are actively involved in a community organization in East Garfield Park.


Award categories are as follows:

  • Academics (school based academic performance)
  • Performing Arts (music, drama, dance, spoken word, etc)
  • Visual Arts (painting, sculpting, graphic art, etc)
  • Community Service/Citizenship (volunteerism)
  • Sports (sport performance at school, club, or community level)
  • Peer Leadership (leadership among their peers such as club, project, church leadership)
  • Award winners will be selected in each category from each grade range (6-8 and 9-12).


This announcement initiates the application process for the 2016 East Garfield Park Community Youth Awards. Applications should be completed in full and postmarked or received no later than Friday, April 1, 2016. In order to nominate someone, please complete the on-line nomination form at East Garfield Park Youth Awards Form or by downloading and completing the attached PDF and mailing it to or dropping it off at Breakthrough FamilyPlex, 3219 W Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL 60624. Award winners will be determined by a committee and will be notified in early April. Award winners will be invited to an Awards Banquet to be held on Wednesday, May 4th at 6:30 pm. All nominees will be recognized by mail.
