42nd Annual Homeless Outreach Luncheon & Resource Fair
On Saturday, November 12, 2016, Marillac St. Vincent Family Services will kick off the holiday season by hosting its 42nd Annual Outreach Luncheon and Resource Fair for the individuals and families experiencing homelessness, an event sponsored by “Santa Mike” Sturch at its St. Vincent de Paul Center site. This is the first in a series of holiday events hosted each year by Marillac St. Vincent Family Services that focuses on making the holidays special for families, seniors and those who experience homelessness.
On November 12th, from 11:00am to 2:00pm, St. Vincent de Paul Center will open its doors to over 400 homeless men, women, and children. These families and individuals are invited to share a traditional Thanksgiving meal as over 200 volunteers and staff members create a warm and welcoming environment.
In addition to the Thanksgiving meal, this event offers a wide variety of goods and services to help those experiencing homelessness prepare for winter. Our guests that day will receive cold-weather essentials such as thermal underwear, coats, and sleeping bags. Haircuts, medical screenings, podiatry care and legal services will also be available.
This occasion also serves as the beginning of the Santa Mike holiday events, which have positively impacted the lives of our clients for over 45 years. Named after Mike Sturch, a former trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Santa Mike along with his family and friends will also host a December holiday children’s event in which each child receives a gift, followed by a dinner for seniors at our St. Vincent’s location and a luncheon for seniors at our Marillac Social Service location.
