The Nearly New Thrift Shop at St. Vincent de Paul Center will open its doors for a grand re-opening event on Tuesday, August 13 with new merchandise, longer hours of operation, and Saturday hours. The store, which sells new and gently used high-end fashions, homewares, jewelry, and kids' clothes, temporarily closed in May after the former manager retired.
Since first opening in 1968, Nearly New has been an important source of funds at Marillac St. Vincent. Every donation to Nearly New and every purchase made in the store, goes directly back to the programs at MSV.
MSV is excited to welcome Ariel Mejía as the Nearly New Thrift Shop Store Manager. Mejía has over two decades of experience working in retail, and has already begun using his expertise to spruce up the shop and secure its place as a shopping destination in Lincoln Park. “Our customers will see something very different when we reopen the shop,” said Mejía. “Our volunteers have been working very hard reorganizing the store to make sure guests at Nearly New have a really fun shopping experience.”

“People love thrifting!” commented Mejía. “There is something really fun about ‘the hunt’ because you never know what you’re going to find, whether it’s something a little oddball and off-beat, or a really chic name brand cocktail dress. That’s what we’ve always been known for, we’ve just made it easier so that people don’t feel like they’re rummaging through junk.”
