Mike Sturch, better known around Marillac St. Vincent as “Santa Mike,” began working with St. Vincent de Paul Center by distributing toys to children in 1970. Now, 48 years later, the arrival of Santa Mike is a highly anticipated event for both children and staff. This year was no exception. On December 7th, 2018, Santa Mike greeted 416 excited children at St. Vincent, handing out presents and spreading holiday cheer to all. Santa Mike and Marillac St. Vincent know that something as simple as a gift can make all the difference for children and are proud to be able to provide that joy every year.
On the evening on December 7th, Mike Sturch and Marillac St. Vincent Family Services also hosted the annual Santa Mike Senior Party at St. Vincent de Paul. The holiday event was expertly decorated by Diane Sturch and attended by 250 area seniors, some of whom take part in the Marillac St. Vincent Community Outreach Programs. The seniors shared a night of music, dancing, dinner, and gifts. It was a wonderful evening filled with laugher and friendship.
This special day of “Santa Mike” events is possible every year because of generous donations to the Sant Mike Fund. The money in this fund allows Mike, his family, and countless volunteers to provide gifts to children in need and dinners to disadvantaged seniors every holiday season. Thank you to everyone who donated this year!
