MSV in the spotlight following awards recognition
Marillac St. Vincent Chief Financial Officer Karen Kane, was awarded the 2018 CFO of the Year Award in the Not-for-Profit Midsize Company category by the Chicago Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) at a reception on November 13, 2018. Karen was recognized by FEI for her exceptional performance as a financial professional.
FEI’s mission is to advance the success of senior-level financial executives, their organizations and the profession. Its more than 10,000 members hold policy-making positions as chief financial officers, chief accounting officers, controllers and treasurers at companies from every major industry. The Chicago Chapter of FEI has over 500 members representing companies and organizations which operate in virtually every industry, the nonprofit realm and academia.
At the 8th Annual CFO of the Year Awards, 24 leaders were recognized and 5 award recipients were selected from this premier group. Award categories included public companies, large private companies, mid-size private companies, large nonprofits, and mid-size nonprofits.
Jeff Bethke, CFO for Depaul University, took home the prize in the "Not-for-Profit Large Company" category, rounding out a big night for Vincentian organizations in Chicago.
Karen has been involved in supporting the mission at Marillac St. Vincent for over 25 years: the first 21 as a volunteer while working full-time in the corporate sector combined with the last four years working as CFO.
In addition to various MSV fundraising event committees, Karen served for eight years on the Finance Committee with the last four as Committee Chair, followed by six years on the Board of Trustees with the last three as Board Chairperson. As MSV’s CFO, she provided financial leadership through a major legal entity restructuring, guided the implementation of new accounting systems, and negotiated its first Bank Line of Credit when the Illinois budget crisis hit in 2015.
Prior to joining MSV as CFO, Karen’s financial career was with primarily publicly held Fortune 500 international companies. Karen started her career with Arthur Anderson & Co. and worked with other Chicago headquartered companies including most recently as Group Senior Vice President at RR Donnelley managing the financial aspects of businesses with over $1 billion in revenue.
