Forty-seven years ago, Mike Struch began helping low income families as well as the homeless people in Chicago’s west side. For over 40 years, Mr. Struch has been providing over 440 children of low-income working families a special gift from Santa, a Homeless Outreach Luncheon for over 500 homeless men, women and children, as well as a special holiday meal for over 250 isolated seniors.
On November 4th, 2017 Santa Mike Sturch and Friends, along with Marillac St. Vincent Family Services hosted their annual homeless outreach luncheon and aided 228 people by offering legal aide, public benefit assistance, health assessments, dental screenings, haircuts, and a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner among other things.
Events of this magnitude cannot be put together without the effort of a lot of people. We received plenty of help from our volunteers. All together, we had a total of 246 volunteers; 42 of them helped assemble bags, organize coats, and completed the set-up preparation on the Friday night prior to the event. The other 204 volunteers helped us in helping clean up after the big event on Saturday as well as escorting our homeless guests, serving them meals, handing out necessities like: sleeping bags, thermal underwear, coats, etc.
We’d like to thank The Daughters of Charity, the Tzu Chi Foundation, the Holy Family, Dr. Scholl Podiatry, Canella School of Hair Design students, Bob Gorski with Warm Wishes, and many others for their outstanding individual donations of their services, supply, and time. Events like these would not be possible without your efforts.
