East Garfield Park Youth Summit

The First Annual East Garfield Park Youth Summit

Thanks to a generous grant from the Chicago Community Trust, Marillac St. Vincent in partnership with the East Garfield Youth Collaborative, organized the first ever East Garfield Park Youth Summit. The Summit brought together teens from the West Side to address the many challenges young people face through group dialogue, team building exercises, and visual art.

The East Garfield Park Youth Collaborative was formed in 2013 in an effort to strengthen partnerships among organizations on the West Side who work with young people. The Summit was organized and conceived entirely by the youth themselves, with guidance from mentors and coaches. The teens decided they wanted to focus the Summit on issues of violence and develop concrete steps for how they as individuals could effect change.

Thank you to Breakthrough Youth Network, Priscy's Production Outreach Program and Chicago West Community Music Center, Taproots & Beidler, and the Chicago Police Department for participating in the breakout sessions and helping the Youth realize their vision for successful Youth Summit!
