Rally and March for Peace

On August 6th, in cooperation with the newly formed East Garfield Park Collaboration, Marillac St. Vincent hosted nine After School Matters groups, for a powerful rally and march calling for peace on the West Side of Chicago. With 20 deadly shootings in the East Garfield Park neighborhood this year alone, the crowd of 500 children, youth, families, and workers gathered to march in protest of the violence. The march concluded with several beautiful and often heartbreaking performances of hip-hop, choreographed dance, poetry, and skits presented by over 125 youth from the community, in front of the Marillac House.
