Honoring Martin Luther King at Marillac

"Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness." -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
To honor his memory, Martin Luther King Jr. Day became a federal holiday in 1983; and was observed for the first time three years later. It is celebrated on the third Monday in January, to mark King’s birthday, January 15. In 1994, legislation was passed to create Martin Luther King Day of Service – to encourage citizens to use the federal holiday as an opportunity to give back to their communities. Considered a "day on, not a day off" individuals are encouraged to work towards King's vision of a "Beloved Community."
On Monday, January 20th, Americans celebrated the life and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In honor of his spirit to peace and giving, Marillac hosted a peace fair over the weekend. One hundred people attended the Peace Fair, families and children, to remember this great man. Attendees enjoyed arts and crafts projects, a delicious lunch, games, and fun for the whole family. We are thankful to everyone who participated and to all of the staff who organized the event.
