Over 250 people participated in the event on Saturday, April 12th. Deanna and Mrs. Grant from the Hope Jr. program organized the day. The motor skills room was decorated to look like an Easter Sunday Brunch. Our families were treated to a wonderful buffet feast that our wonderful staff prepared.
Over 40 volunteers from Old St. Pat's Church participated. Their group consisted of children, teens and adults. The parishioners donated baskets, candy and toys. Each family in attendance received a beautiful basket.
The day was filled with activities including: decorating bunny cookies, arts and crafts, egg dying, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Bill Markel, a long-time volunteer, and Vincent Taylor took pictures of the children and the Easter Bunny. The day concluded with 3 special Easter Egg hunts. Bob Zintarski, another long-time volunteer, started a tradition 5 years ago of putting money in some of the eggs. This adds much excitement to the hunt. The youngest children were outside in Marillac’s yard and the next 2 age groups were in the Calhoun Park.
The families who attended were very grateful for the event. Many of them said that it gave them an opportunity to celebrate with their children in a safe environment. It also demonstrates that Marillac works with the whole family to reinforce the importance of families having opportunities to spend quality time doing fun activities together.
Old St. Pat’s Parish has a long history with Marillac and the Daughters of Charity. Marillac actually started at Old St. Pat's almost 100 years ago. We are glad that traditions such as this can continue on and our collaboration remain strong throughout the years. This summer, these partnerships will be celebrated at Old St. Pat’s with Sunday mass.
Thanks again to all of the volunteers, Hope Junior staff, teen leaders, dietary and operations for making this day so special for our children and families.
