Vincent’s Jump-starts the Holiday Season by Helping Those Most in Need
Chicago, IL – On
Saturday, November 15, 2014, Marillac St. Vincent Family Services - St. Vincent de Paul Center will kick
off the holiday season by hosting its 39th Annual Outreach Luncheon
and Resource Fair for the Homeless, an event sponsored by “Santa Mike” Sturch. This

On November 15th,
from 11am to 2pm, the Center will open its doors to over 350 homeless men,
women, and children. These families and individuals are invited to share a
traditional Thanksgiving meal as over 200 volunteers and staff members are on hand
to create a warm and welcoming environment.
The event not
only feeds families and individuals experiencing homelessness, but also offers
a wide variety of goods and services to help prepare them for winter. Our
guests that day will receive cold-weather essentials such as thermal underwear,
coats, and sleeping bags. Haircuts, medical screenings, podiatry care and legal
services will also be available on event day.
A past volunteer
shared this thought: “This event is an expression of care and concern for men
and women in need. It is the only
alternative that some of them have to receive these items. It is a day of importance for the individuals,
and we are so excited because it really is THE event for the homeless during
This event also serves
as the beginning of the Santa Mike holiday events, which have transformed the lives of St.
Vincent’s clients over the past 44 years. Named after Mike Sturch, a former trader at the
Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Santa Mike along with his family and friends will also
host a holiday children’s party followed by a dinner for seniors on December 5.
