Chicago Reader Reflects on West Side

In addition to LaToya Winters being named recognized in the People Issue of the Chicago Reader, her story was also used to reflect on how the West Side neighborhood has changed over the years.

While her story is one of success, not all children from the neighborhood are able to overcome the insurmountable odds and hardships as LaToya did. Every day we hear about violence and other horrible situations in the neighborhood surrounding Marillac. However, Marillac serves as a safe haven to children and families in the area that need such a place. LaToya serves as a shining example of what hard work and determination can do, as well as the need for support from places like Marillac.
